Many snowboarders will before long be dusting down their ski equipment and scooting forth hunting for the biggest snow conditions. And beyond any doubt the result of your carbon footprint will be virtually as far down the list of vacation essentials as a Christmas tree after xmas. But last year, a tardy snow hit the newspaper headlines and tourists were panic stricken about the flecks of snow dissolving nearly as soon as they put down.

Skiing company Chalets France, based at the foot of Mont Blanc in Chamonix in the French Alps, is one of the only autonomous businesses to go carbon negative and offer skiers an environmentally friendly choice when reserving their ski trip. Chalet1802 founder LEODA said: Last winter was a bit of a surprise with the hottest winter in fifty five yrs in Europe. Skiing ski fields like Serre Chevalier, Gourette and Les Contamines-Montjoie suffered. It was balmy and the snow did not settle so much of the early season snowboarding season in the Alps was uneven. We decided to become carbon neutral to help preserve the ski resort.

LEODA said: We are not trying to prescribe to guests but I believe its of import to give them the alternative without augmenting the cost of the ski holiday. When they book with us and goes on holiday to our Chamonix catered chalet they may further off-set their carbon footprint and we take in the other prices. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub – customers wish for opulence but not at the expense of the alps mountains, so we looked at ways of reducing the impact of a guest flying over here for a winter holiday.”

The firm have also joined with charity Climate Care, which tackles climate change by providing carbon dioxide reductions for people and companies.
